Countdown to World's - 10 Names You Can't Ignore
#️⃣7️⃣ - Joji Kaieda (
@mihono_suica)
📕Achievements: Joji arrived on the VG scene in the Sword & Shield era, managing to achieve a top 16 finish at Japan Nationals in 2021, qualifying for World's in 2022, and since achieved 1st in many of the online rank battle seasons. Last year he surprised the entire European scene by showing up at Stockholm Regionals in 2024, and getting all the way to the final!
📈 This season: Joji is most well-known for winning 3(!!!) of the online Grand/Global Challenges, as well as getting top 4 in two more! Although the format of those events is not what will be played at World's, Joji has shown he shines in open team sheet, best-of-3 as well, with multiple regional top cuts, a top 16 at EUIC, top 64 at NAIC, and finishing with by far the most CP in the Oceania circuit.
🧠 Strengths: The use of surprising but effective tera types has enabled Joji to consistently climb to the top of the official online tournaments and ranked battle ladders. When it comes to open team sheet play, he uses that surprise factor in his play, by making risky but accurate reads. This all makes Joji a very scary opponent to face!
🔎 Look out for: Across most formats, Joji has liked using teams that have a Trick Room mode, but can still function well outside of it. Throughout Regulation Set G and I, Ice Rider Calyrex has been a favourite, so look out for this Pokémon alongside some faster options like Flutter Mane and Urshifu.
🐉 Niche Pokémon Used: Groudon! (At Melbourne Regionals 2025, finishing 11th)
