Dozens of male Broad-bodied Chaser dragonflies on the Thames Path today near the River of Life II wetlands. This one visited by a Common blue damselfly. There were dozens of them too.

Damselfly devouring a moth today. Can anyone id which damselfly this is please, and maybe the moth too? Photo taken nr the River Thames at Radcot while listening to the songs of reed warblers, curlew and cuckoo - idyllic! @UpperThamesBC@Anna_Dillon

Chill out with this fabulous frosty dawn view of Lowbury Hill, taken by Hedley Thorne in December 2022.
This photo is the inspiration for an artistic illustration of Lowbury Hill that features on the new interpretation board installed on a hot day earlier this week. Thank you Hayley and Dan from the Historic Ridgeway Project team, working hard to put in the board ๐

Wonderful to see this beautiful little butterfly in its favoured chalk grassland habitats ๐ @Anna_Dillon and the Astons #naturerecovery project #butterflies
I am lucky to be part of a local Nature Recovery project in the East of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, which is a 7 hectar chalk grassland field. Today, I recorded this grizzled skipper, which is our first record. Small changes can enable big wins.

Two Bryony plants for #wildflowerhour#tiny flowers instead of #tinyplants challenge๐ค
Black Bryony (Dioscorea communis) with tiny flowers that in bud look like asparagus tips.
White Bryony (Bryonia dioica) with tiny yellow-green flowers.

Flying in on southerly winds...this Painted Lady butterfly rested in my garden this afternoon...while swifts were calling and cavorting overhead...summer's here!

Countryside around Calcot Mill on the Holybrook a channel of the River Kennet ๐ wonderful painting by John Singer Sargent. Calcot water mill was owned by Reading Abbey, hence 'Holy Brook' @ARKennet@readingmuseum
In the summer of 1888, John Singer Sargent and his family moved to Calcot Mill near the River Kinnett in the English country of Berkshire. This work bears all the hallmarks of swift painting, there's a freshness in the slightly skewed composition and the brio of the brushwork.
No April Fool - Benson weir is open again today after a complete overhaul. There's a brand new footbridge and we've built a safety pass for eels and fish.
