Lincoln Airport Conducted Full-Scale Emergency Plan Exercise 🚨 The scenario simulated a collision between a commercial and military aircraft on the terminal ramp, testing responses to fuel spills, fires, and injuries.
As a Class I airport, LNK plans to conduct its triennial airport emergency plan exercise on Wed., Sept. 18, 2024 from 4-7 p.m.
The airport will remain open & operational during the exercise. Community members may see an increased number of emergency personnel & vehicles.

James K. Kunkle, WWII hero and last surviving pilot of the 401st Fighter Squadron, epitomizes bravery and resilience. Born in 1922, his aviation career began with the CA Air National Guard in 1939 and transitioned to the Army Air Corps.

He flew the P-38 Lightning in WWII, earning the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism over Aachen, Germany. Post-war, the 401st became the 173rd Fighter Squadron in the Nebraska Air National Guard. His legacy is honored in the aircrafts paint scheme.
