Paul Byrd is perhaps the greatest human being I know—I say that not hyperbolic, not exaggerating, and not even in terms of a baseball guy, as a human being, period.
The idea that he felt the need to put out a statement because he upset some meme accounts is absurd, and after I post this, I will text him exactly that.
Byrdie, despite being perhaps the greatest human being walking on earth, is a ballplayer—a baseball guy—and any ballplayer can tell you that his excitement led to him finding a roundabout word for gritty, here.
Anyone who was upset with Byrdie is not a ballplayer, not a baseball guy, and definitely not gritty.
There are a maybe a dozen and a half people who I’d drop everything for if they called needing me: my perfect wife, my immediate family, a couple cousins, a few good Marines, SgtMaj Eddie Heyward,
@HLewison,
@Tony_Eichler,
@RealGlenMacnow,
@76pack,
@TMacPhils,
@TimmyKitz,
@16RobCooper, AO, Charlie McNulty, Mitch Harris, and Paul Byrd.
Paul has done exactly this for me, personally, talking me out of crisis mode over the phone as I was pulled over at a gas station in the middle of nowhere battling some demons.
To call on this man’s character in any way is an attack on me personally, and I do not take kindly to that at all.
The only thing Paul Byrd cares about is following Jesus Christ, his incredible wife and family, and making others feel as good about life as he does.
If you think he took a shot at Yaz, you are sorely mistaken, and you need to reevaluate the way you view the world.
This is a non-story for me but Byrdie was upset last night when he found out some took his sign off after his Yaz interview as insulting to the player. He and I were talking past midnight last night working through it. He felt terrible. Yaz wasn't offended, quite the opposite. You'll see that by the sign of affection he gave Byrdie at the end of the interview and what you'll hear Byrdie share in the video below.
Byrdie is a champion of players and wants to bring their stories to you with the greatest appreciation and perspective that he can. That is what last night was. Byride is not on social media but he wanted to share his thoughts with Braves Country. He is a sweetheart of man, friend and teammate, we are lucky to have him.
