While I’m not under NDA, I have no plans to tweet about what goes on behind the curtain of game development while I'm in the industry. That said, I’ll never forget the warmth I felt when Yu Suzuki offered me some bread he’d brought to a meeting. It was such a sweet moment.

Funny how things connect—working on the English version of Shenmue as casting director ended up helping me cast the right actors for Silent Hill 2 in Tokyo. I might start doing foreign voice recording again in Tokyo maybe not for AAA games but for indie games.

I was incredibly lucky to work as a casting coordinator for the English version of Shenmue 1. As a huge fan of Yu Suzuki, being in the same room with and chatting with him during the casting process was absolutely unreal.

I actually did more than broker/middleman when I was inside the LSP :) Most of the project I dealt in the past needed more than something which can be handled by bunch of translators.
personally i have always viewed LSPs as the broker/middleman between those who want things translated and those who can translate those things, so can't say i disagree with this tweet

Another small secret from SH1 to celebrate TGS. I did a voice over for one random character during the recording session in San Francisco and the actor of Harry (Michael Guinn) directed me.

I am sure he felt vulnerable and out of nowhere (maybe it was his first time in US?) and maybe lonely too (and maybe mad about me, I never asked) and I think this experience helped him make the atmosphere of SH1. -End of the small secret-

I was supposed to be with the director but I was dragged into a marketing meeting or something so I had to leave the director who doesn't speak English very well with the Product coordinator in US who spoke no Japanese at all alone for location hunting...

Some small secret from SH1. I was working at KCET at the time where SH1 was still in very very early stage of development and I took the director of SH1 to Chicago (which we had head office of Konami USA) for location hunting...

It's nice to see so many indie games localized in Japanese with the launch of Apple Arcade! If any of these games are going to be ported to console platforms and if anyone needs CERO rating (which is necessary for Japan) support, please DM me. I will be happy to help!

What sucks is that we aren't getting paid (Money that my partner needs for his medical bills) until we go ahead and do a CERO registration of a rape game (IN OUR NAME) for a game that we feel very uncomfortable with, all because this indie game dev is holding our money hostage.

At Konami, I was the 1st official localizer at Konami while @JeremyBlaustein was the 1st unofficial in-house creative editor and localizer.

Around that time, translating and localizing was fun. It was part of development which I think is still a case for some game developers/publisher. For some, I think it is more of a routine process with less interaction between loc and dev.

Oh, there was a typo. "SH franchise never existed if the VP WASN'T working at KCET at that time.
The VP also had a big influence on SH1 while he is not considered "Team Silent". I actually think Silent Hill franchise never existed if the VP was at KCET at that time.

The VP of the dev decided the game was for the international market and wanted to present it to the Japanese game player as it was from overseas. But I think it was still a very rare case.

for Silent Hill 1, I checked the translation myself, did the casting, directed the recording and modified the lines with Micheal G during recording and directed the post editing of the movie. I think I did pretty good as a Japanese guy.

I was involved in many game translation, localization project for the past 20 years and Silent Hill 1 is still maybe the project I am most proud of myself.
