Australia’s new national emergency alert system will be tested soon to make sure it works during emergencies like natural disasters. People in some communities will receive a test alert in June 2026, before the rest of Australia in July 2026. During the test, a loud sound will play on all compatible devices, even if they are on silent or ‘do not disturb’. If a device is turned off, the alert will sound when it is switched back on. If you use a hidden or safety phone and are affected by domestic, family and sexual violence it’s important you plan ahead. 1800RESPECT counsellors can help you think through your options and plan what feels safest for you.
