I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.” Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

Running tests with free versions of LLMs on using llms.txt indexed markdown files: Grock — possibly the best Claude — pretty good Gemini — Cannot/won't retrieve files ChatGPT — Doesn't read files and pretends it does!

I'll be on sabbatical until August 2027 and using the time to explore some deeply profound questions ... including why I spend so much time writing stuff so few people want to read! futureofbeinghuman.com/p/the…

I got so frustrated with grad students (and potential students) struggling to understand what a PhD is — and what it entails — that I sat down with Claude and developed a website designed specifically to allow anyone to explore my perspectives, expectations and advice — either through an AI of their choice or reading the material directly. It was a surprisingly tough process, involving several hours of being questioned by Claude on every aspect of my thinking, and being pushed hard where it was wooly. But the end result is a surprisingly candid and deep reflection on what I think a PhD is, what pursuing one involves, the many challenges that PhD students face, and the type of mindset that is more likely to get you throught. Useful for me in clarifying and capturing my own thinking, but hopefully useful to anyone in a PhD program, contemplating a PhD, or supporting someone who is. Links: This is a resource that's been designed to be engaged with in three primary ways (although I'm sure there are many others). 1. Using an AI of choice as a guide. Simply go to soyouwantaphd.wtf/ copy the prompt, and paste it into your AI — see the notes on the web page for tips here on what works better and what struggles. 2. Using NotebookLM Point NotebookLM at soyouwantaphd.wtf/llms-full.… and when the file has loaded ask it anything. Asking for an infographic of the whole file, or specific aspects of doing a PhD seems to work particularly well 3. Browse the source filesThese are written for AI consumption, but all can be read manually at soyouwantaphd.wtf/contents.h… And this is an experiment in making content accessible, so please let me know how you get on if you explore it. Thanks!

If you have to explicitly explain that this is not a Golden Calf, it clearly is!
Today at Trump National Doral Miami, we witnessed an unforgettable moment with the dedication of the 22-foot statue honoring President Donald J. Trump. Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. This statue is a celebration of life. It is a symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, strength, and the will power to keep fighting for the future of America. It also stands as a reminder of the hand of God and His protection over President Trump’s life. Time and time again, when his life was threatened, God’s mercy prevailed. Today was not just a ribbon cutting. It was the public display of a powerful movement that has spread across America and around the world. I was deeply honored to serve as President Trump’s main point of contact throughout this process, and I do not take that assignment lightly. I want to personally thank Ash, Dustin Stockton, Brock Pierce, Hershey Friedman, Yaakov Filitchkin, Sam, Jack, and the 6,000 Patriots who donated, believed, sacrificed, and made this historic moment possible. Thank you to the entire Trump Doral team for your incredible hospitality and excellence. And thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for calling me today and speaking to the crowd. We are forever grateful. God bless President Trump. God bless every Patriot. And God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸 #PresidentTrump #SpiritualDiplomats #TrumpDoral #TrumpStatueDedication #AmericaFirst #PatriotMovement #FaithFreedomPatriotism

How am I supposed to make satire when headlines like this are real 😭

Very sad to hear of the passing of Craig Venter - controversial, highly influential, impacted my work in synthetic biology years ago, had the privilege of him serving on a WEF committee I chaired way back. Will be missed.

I'm mad. I'm mad because I've defended ASU many times (even on this hell-site) regarding our work around AI. I work with folks dedicated to helping ASU navigate this difficult landscape with wisdom, care, and in alignment with our values. And now this? insidehighered.com/news/tech…

Working with Claude on capturing my approaches/philosophy/practices of mentoring/chairing PhD students. For anyone who thinks using AI is about offloading intellectual labor, I feel like Claude has has a vacuum cleaner attached to my brain all morning - exhausted!

Question: if you could ask anything at all about doing a PhD, what would you ask - whether you’re thinking about doing one, in one, or just curious? Building a new AI resource and looking for seed questions.
