Circuit Breaker Benefits Overstated Following the leak of the SPI-M model to the media, a number of people have focussed on the claim that is could save "up to" 107,000 lives This is a flawed conclusion. The most obvious and major flaw is that the model stops at 31/12/2020....

We need to be serious. There are several orders of magnitude more context to the story than the one that puts Ed Miliband at the centre of the green agenda -- as much as he would like to claim otherwise. 1. The green agenda is global -- mostly western/European -- and precedes climate. 2. The British Establishment in *toto*, right, left and centre, absorbed environmentalism to its core, with practically zero resistance. 3. Miliband is a late entry to that party, and is a symptom, not a cause. He is a bit part. A zombie. A cipher. If you want to understand the history of the green agenda and its hostility to industry and economic growth -- which was programmed from its start -- you should read @RupertDarwall's articles and three books on the topic. *Especially* so, if you are from the Tory camp. Blaming Miliband is lame at this point, frankly.
NB:- I am not making some trivial, nuanced, snarky point here. Growth scepticism was written into Tory party doctrine (by its wealthiest members) several years before the Climate Change Act. And yet a group that aims to "look for growth" seems blind to the forces of degrowth.

BBC News had a good run, inoculated from market forces and producing news - increasingly aimed, not at customers - but newsroom peers and awards judges. In recent years, most notably its coverage of the 2015 migrant crisis, Brexit, Trump and Israel, BBC News showed itself to be institutionally incapable of balance. It doesn’t deserve to be decimated. It deserves to be shut down.

Farage says Starmer’s social media ban ‘is well-intentioned’. We disagree. It is not well-intentioned. It is sinister.

The number of messages I get similar to below (received today) has been increasing for the last few years. It's absolute madness HGV drivers feel they have to risk their safety because hard shoulder's been removed and technology which is meant to offset that, is not up to the job

Anyone else find it strange… A couple weeks after the internet exposed the UK trying to hide the Henry Nowak murder the UK is pushing internet censorship? I’m sure it’s a total coincidence.

British policing derives its authority not from force, but from consent. If increasing numbers of ordinary citizens begin to question whether that consent remains justified, that is not merely a policing issue. It is a constitutional issue. The document in the post below does not ask the public to hate the police. It asks whether the relationship between the public and the police remains balanced, healthy and true to the principles upon which British policing was founded and that question matters, because legitimacy cannot be legislated into existence. It must be earned, maintained and renewed. This serves to remind people that in a supposed free society, institutions derive their authority from the people.
🔥🔥 The people give consent to police and the people can take it away. 🔥🔥 1, 100 or a 1000 people won’t make a difference. But, millions removing their consent to police, what can they do? Nothing. 🤷 As long as the people stand in their honour and do not cause harm or loss to another the police become irrelevant. Tell them at every interaction in a calm and respectful way. “I do not consent to your unlawful style of policing and I will not comply.” Then walk away. Print off this document and hand it to the police, leave it on police vehicle windscreens, police station windows and doors. ethicalapproach.co.uk/Polici… Share this post. Change your profile photos to the blue and white do not consent badges. Add the badges to your story on all social media platforms. The power of the people and the will of the people is now what matters. When the police remember their role in society then consent will be returned. Absolutely no burning of buildings or vehicles or hurting anyone. Just say, “no, I do not consent I will not comply.” This applies to The Government too and they all know it.

This censorship law is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The real goal is to enable the UK government to track everyone.
It’s important to know that the social media ban for under 16s is not a ban for under 16s. It is a ban on *selected* social media for EVERYONE. Until you identify yourself.

Missing the point with politically balanced compromise: The real answer here is to get the state out of parental responsibilities
Whilst the social media ban is well-intentioned, it’s unlikely to work given the mass adoption of VPNs. It will also mean the introduction of Digital ID via the back door. The real answer here is handsets for children with limited features.

Do not allow your face to be scanned just to access social media. DO NOT ALLOW IT. No face scanning, no passport scanning, no giving them bank details, nothing. Under no circumstances should you allow this. Just DO NOT DO IT. The future is in your hands.
