It took me about 15 mins to figure out Rifleman Wheeler wasn’t Colombian (service file and google search) CAF social media doesn’t seem interested in correcting their error. Feel free to let them know that historical accuracy matters.
Rifleman James Clinton Wheeler’s story is one of heroic sacrifices. Originally from El Centro, Infantas, Municipio de Barrancabermeja, Santander, Colombia, he enlisted in the @Canadianarmy in Toronto, on July 19, 1943. #LatinAmericanHeritageMonth 1/4

Last week was a good one. I was accepted as a Fellow for the 2023 SMH Summer Seminar and I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation. Now I have to mark the 35 papers for Cdn Mil Hist before the 25 for Mil Hist come in on Wednesday. No rest for the wicked.
For the first 5-10 mins of my double periods this term I will talk to cadets about some key issues I think are important to their future as officers. Subjects I've come up with thus far include:
1) Integrity - re plagiarism but long-term impacts as well
1/
2) Importance of a cap badge - in response to a padre telling the cadet wing that it is "just a piece of metal."
3) Why we salute.
4) What type of leader do you want to be?
5) The importance of adversity.
6) The importance of fitness.
7) The importance of a unifying identity

Back to the grind. Created a standard “course introduction” for all my classes today. Class procedures, instructional philosophy, discipline, and expectations. I think some students will be bit shocked but most will appreciate having a left and right of arc.
