Today in 1746, a blinding storm rendered the British musketry useless, leaving the field open for one last, Highland charge. Britain was about to find out the Jacobites had fight left in them. The Jacobite Rising: The Highland Storm Listen Now! #PrimeAndLoad #ScottishHistory

8th Jan 1815, At New Orleans, the British attacked strong US defences along the Mississippi unaware peace had been signed. Poor coordination and missing assault gear doomed the attack. Over 2,000 British casualties whilst US losses were very light.

This time last week we took part in the @NapoleonicAssoc event @ChilternOAM. It was an outstanding event and proved that there’s never a better time to “take the shilling” and join one of “Wellington’s finest” living history groups.

Next up, some more training with @44thFoot this time taking place at home in Essex. It’s great to see the unit not only making huge improvements in its material culture and drill but also really starting to gel and build some cohesion. Some exciting times ahead for our drill!

Four rounds a minute. Myth or Reality? In the latest instalment from the Napoleonic Wars Pod, we see if it is actually possible to fire four rounds a minute. Re-enactor @liamtelfer dons his 44th East Essex uniform in an attempt that encountered many challenges. Link below
