@5SAHLaw are thrilled to sponsor the Inaugural Festive Family Law Conference which @GemmaLindfield has been organising with Chris Bryden from @4KingsBenchWalk . The event will be held at the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne on 11 and 12 December 2025. Gemma and Chris had a vision of creating something different for the family law community. The title of the conference is: Opening Doors: An Advent Calendar of Legal Insights for Family Lawyers. Like opening a door on an Advent calendar, each session unveils a new topic from outside the world of family law — offering unexpected yet invaluable perspectives to enrich the work of family lawyers. Twelve legal insights. One festive journey.
The aim of the conference is to give busy family law practitioners a pause over the festive period, to learn from other legal disciplines as they relate to family law, indulge in wellbeing, give something back to the community and immerse themselves in a truly festive spectacular.
Corporate social responsibility is important to us at 5SAH and it is fantastic that the conference will support the local homeless community and that there will be a beach clean to support the marine environment.
Get booking today, Email famcon@4kbw.co.uk for a booking form.
Do not hesitate to ask Gemma or our family clerks Dean and Kyle for any further information.
We hope to see you there!

4KBW’s Jennifer Lanigan assisted Kesar and Co solicitors in securing significant damages in a long-running case against the Ministry of Justice concerning various breaches of the claimant's Article 8 rights
The claim concerned numerous interferences over several years with the Claimant's correspondence, including unlawful interferences with the Claimant's legal correspondence (termed 'rule 39' correspondence under the Prison Rules).
Every issue was disputed by the Defendant, including whether or not the Claimant was a 'victim' within the meaning of the Human Rights Act 1998. Nevertheless, the Claimant secured significant damages in settlement at an unprecedented level when compared to existing case law.
Jyoti Wood instructed by Mohit Vaghela of Attwater succeeded in securing serious and wide-ranging findings of physical, verbal and psychological abuse along with a finding of coercive and controlling behaviour after a multi-day fact finding hearing heard in Watford
4KBW is proud to announce that Jyoti Wood has been shortlisted for Junior Pro Bono Barrister of the year at the 2025 Bar Pro Bono Awards

The 2025 Pro Bono Recognition List has been released.✨
The list shines a light on those who have completed 25 or more hours of pro bono work in the last year, plugging the gap time and time again.

ALT Image featuring a quote about the Pro Bono Recognition List by Barbara Mills KC, Chair of the Bar Council, set against a backdrop of a justice scales. In the bottom right hand corner is a Bar Council logo.
The quote reads: “The Pro Bono Recognition List shines a light on those lawyers who continue to step up time and time again to plug the gaps. The Bar’s own contribution has grown significantly. We are incredibly grateful for the time and care given by every individual on the list, but their goodwill should not replace the proper funding of legal aid to ensure everyone has access to justice.”
4KBW is proud to share the inclusion of Katherine Illsley, Jyoti Wood and Jennifer Lanigan in the 2025 Pro Bono Recognition List.
The list seeks to recognise barristers and who have dedicated at least 25 hours to providing pro bono legal assistance in the previous calendar year
James Turner was a superb advocate, the family lawyer’s lawyer. He loved and was fascinated by the law. I was privileged to work with him and to be led by him many times. I was honoured to call him my friend. He was loved and will be missed. @JamesTurner371kbw.co.uk/news/chambers-mou…
