I was very nervous about hosting my 1st Socratic Seminar with my students, but they truly blew me away with their depth of knowledge of the book & the nuance of the thoughts they shared with each other.
I was on the outside of the circle, because I was only meant to facilitate.
I noticed there were a few students that were reluctant to share in front of the entire class.
So when I do this again, I would perhaps make two different circles, and of course make sure students had ample time to prepare and have things written down ahead of time.
They also kept wanting to look at me when they were sharing their ideas and thoughts but I would gesture and remind them to look at their classmates when sharing.
Overall, I’m so proud them for being brave and trusting the process.
Silent classrooms aren’t boring, they’re powerful. Give pupils calm and you give them the bandwidth to think, reason, and really learn. Noise has its moments, but deep understanding grows in quiet.
Ms. Bess’s students scored VIP tickets to Poet-Chella as they explored the magic of figurative language and poetic elements! With Rascal Flatts and Katy Perry headlining their literary lineup, students jammed out to similes, metaphors, and rhythms that rocked the classroom! 🎵✨
“Retrieval practice was never meant to make pupils just good at quizzes.”
Retrieval is powerful when it’s varied—when students connect, elaborate, defend, and justify.
If all we ever do is hit them with the same quiz-style prompts, they get good at remembering those answers.👇
This made me realize that I want to do a lesson on how to give more effective and actionable feedback. #LearningIsMagical and we will keep growing together 🪴🤩🤗
Our students are shining bright in our classrooms, collaborating, using manipulatives to deepen understanding, completing ECRs with confidence, and applying checklists to give peer feedback. Every moment of learning is pure magic at Brazos Bend Elementary! #LevelupFBISD
Ms. Stewart’s class launched into learning by synthesizing themes across multiple texts!
Their “Gallery Exhibit” showcased how perseverance, teamwork, and discovery connect stories across the universe of reading. 🌌📚 #BullfrogPride#ReadingIsMagical#BBELearns
During Writing students wrote three different types of compound sentences but the stipulation was that they had to write about science; energy transformation or circuits. Their best example went onto their mini white boards! ☺️ my favorite part of being self contained 🙂🙂
