What’s important about this omission is that it hides the fact that activism is organization. It’s not one magical person who changes minds, it’s the concerted effort of community over years. No one activism was more special than another. It wasn’t spontaneous or inevitable.

The song should be called A Thousand Miles. Each Five Hundred Miles mentioned is explicitly one of two concurrent units of walked distance- albeit stated separately for emphasis- which TOGETHER will win your heart. Using half that stated total for the title was counterproductive.
