My most detailed beat sheet and outline, the story comprehensively tracked, subplots, arcs and themes.
The hard work has been done β the actual script should flood onto the page.
Yet I still write at a snail's pace!
Just watched new shark film, Thrash.
As with War Machine, my first and overwhelming thought was not 'it's good' or 'it's bad' but 'it's content'.
Non-descript story, characters, action.
It just 'is'. It exists.
To be consumed and instantly forgotten.
Just got back from seeing Project Hail Mary at the cinema.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
So much humour and heart.
Never thought I'd lose it over a rock.
Straight into my list of all-time greatest films.
May just be the Hail Mary Hollywood (and screenwriters) needed.

FB screenwriting group - member seeks loglines - set genre and budget ($10-20m) for Far East prodco they work for. No scripts unless requested.
Member = inexperienced writer themselves?
Theft risk?

Why is it so hard to get traction on X?
Even just a 'like'.

Perhaps I should spew unsolicited political rants like every other screenwriter?
Just watched THE DARK AND THE WICKED. Not sure how I feel about it though glad to see actual creepiness and dread rather than cheap jump scares.
Lead actress was spectacular.
Let's appreciate the sheer majesty of THE GREY (2011).
So powerful, layered, brutal, poignant.
Existential themes for days.
On first watch I realised it was profound but also that I missed so much and it nagged away at me.
With each viewing I discover more.
A masterclass.
I have an idea for a script but the same premise was covered in a best-selling novel.
This could cause a rights issue for a production but as a calling card spec - when others broke in blatantly using existing IP - is it fair game?

Most writers find Act 2 the easiest - especially in action and horror β writing conflict and ramping up the stakes.
But for me Act 1 and 3 are easy and Act 2 is difficult - anyone else agree?
TEN MOST UNDERRATED FILMS

The Grey (2011)
The Reef (2010)
Strange Days
An Officer and a Gentleman
Hot Tub Time Machine
Edge of Tomorrow
K-PAX

If one of your hidden gems is on this list then congratulations, you have great taste.
Oh, the horror! The horror!
Terror, dread and nightmare fuel on a $10-15 million budget.
@jason_blum call me, yeah?
@SethMSherwood - The Scary Movie Writer's Guide helped with this.

Theatre: playwright is king. Producers, directors & actors work to their scripts.
Cinema: screenwriter is a necessary evil. Producers, directors & actors demand changes to their scripts.
Reason: film is collaborative.
But so is theatre.
Real reason: power.
Screenwriters I'm interested to know how *you* go about rewriting β particularly when you have to work around much of the current draft so it's not simply tossing Act 3 and restarting with a blank page?

1 original 70% complete.
10 ideas percolating.
5 sets of opening teaser pages.
A wealth of ideas, material and reasons to push on yet here I am - again - scrolling X on my days off and doing anything but the writing I vowed to do on my days off.
