Gunmen Strike Again on Oyo Highway – Two Killed in Fresh Kishi-Igbeti Attack
Fear has gripped residents in Oyo State’s Oke-Ogun area after another round of violent attacks by suspected bandits along the Kishi-Igbeti and Igboho-Igbeti roads.
In the latest incident on Friday night around 9:30pm, gunmen ambushed a vehicle on the Kishi-Igbeti road, killing an electricity worker known as Moshood Kayode (popularly called “Mr. Kay”) and another person. Several others were injured.
On Saturday afternoon, another attack occurred near the Old Oyo National Park along the Igbope-Igbeti axis. Heavily armed men in military camouflage opened fire on passing vehicles, including a red Volkswagen Golf and a commercial bus. Four people, including Alhaji Rafiu Jimoh and Jubril Jelili, sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape to Igboho for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said they initially thought the attackers were soldiers due to their camouflage until the shooting started.
Security forces (police, NSCDC, Amotekun, and local guards) have been deployed, but residents are calling for urgent and sustained military operations to clear out these criminal elements from the area, which many believe has become a hideout for bandits and kidnappers.
This level of insecurity on our highways is becoming too frequent. May God protect travelers and bring an end to this madness.
