Must read article @battledinosaur focusing on fundamentally flawed governance @FootballAUS
The 🐘 in the room though is @aleaguemen receiving the biggest unexplained multi million $$ benefit while being the biggest Congress stakeholder. Huge scandal.

20 March 2017. Just over 9 years ago, over 80 real clubs, Australian cultural institutions, met in Melb to unite 🇦🇺 ⚽️ & start a nat'l 2nd div. FIFA recognised us that night, praised the outcome now & greenlit the final step.
Let's finish it together.
I don't always agree with @gianni_infant but when he's right he's right. Imagine his fulsome praise and unrestrained excitement when we move to a national competition linking all our ⚽️ competitions.
@FootballAUS@aleaguemen
Surely, no stopping now.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino addresses the launch of the #AusChampionship at today’s Football Australia AGM 👀
“A highlight of the Australian football calendar, helping to take giant leaps in reuniting old soccer and new football.” ❤️⚽️
Best bit of the Football Australia AGM was Gianni Infantino sending in a video in which he praised the launch of the @AusChampionship, talked about bringing together “old soccer and new football,” and shouted out South Melbourne in the OFC Pro League - the only club referenced.
This is one issue. But it's ok that private, for profit, AL companies, controlled by whoever from time to time, can have a large say over who runs Football Australia while running the AL separately. Fundamentally flawed governance of 🇦🇺 ⚽️
codesports.com.au/football/f…
I was at a grassroots ⚽️ club today, with 16 boys and girls matches at the one venue with over 1,000 people in and out all morning, hundreds of people volunteering in different roles, thinking how the fark did the FA make a $15m loss this past financial year! 😤
Thanks Tracey. The root question is why the A-Leagues, post unbundling, have any say in FA governance. APL's relationship with FA, as a private for-profit, separate entity, should be governed by contract. Having over 30% votes, PFA & % of women's council = control & scandalous.
Thanks @battledinosaur Samantha Lewis for pointing this out. As a journo, please ask @FootballAUS
I'll note again that FA gave the AL to the APL, keeping 15%. The APL sold 1/3rd for $140M !! Our money. Lost it. Owed/paid $7M to FA & got it back. Why?
espn.com.au/football/story/_…
"If the APL is unable to pay its debts -- which the past two years of Football Australia's write-offs imply -- then there may be a bigger concern about the sustainability, even solvency, of the A-Leagues."
espn.com.au/football/story/_….
Disgraceful Football Australia wrote off a reported $6m debt owing from APL (privately owning A League). For that money we would now have a fully established national home & away 2nd division, linked by Pro/Rel to the club pyramid… inclusive, uniting & aspirational… the future
Where to begin with our despair?
Women's WC? Legacy was declared/owned immediately. Now the truth is emerging we have no owners.
But good news. Our public FA has forgiven big $$ owing to us by the private APL. Great!!
An SOS or a timely reset? Jack Snape theguardian.com/sport/2026/m…
FA represents the ⚽️ public. It first GAVE, free less 15%, the AL comp to the franchise owners, who had only paid for a seat in the AL (not for the AL), via their company, the APL. The APL sold 1/3rd for $140M! FA got 5%, about $7M. Now it forgives $6M APL debt. Please explain.
Congrats to #SMFC for being granted $400k in #Budget2026 to help play in the #OFCProLeague.
For those that don’t know, DFAT’s Australia’s sports diplomacy strategy 2032 outlines the important role sports diplomacy can play in the Pacific, which I’m proud my club is part of.
In @ESPNAusNZ;
Heidelberg United has confirmed its intention to pursue a place in the Asian Champions League 2, declaring that "significant work" is underway to meet the criteria to secure a place in the continental tournament.
