I was horrified and saddened to learn that gun violence turned what should have been a happy milestone for families into a night of tragedy and fear, right here in my home state of Virginia. My heart goes out to my community, and my resolve continues to keep children safe.

Pediatricians have witnessed first-hand the tragic consequences caused by ingestions of high-powered magnets. The new safety standard will go a long way toward ensuring these dangerous products do not find their way into kid’s hands, preventing serious injuries and saving lives.

As pediatricians, we recognize that the current crisis makes promoting mental health a necessity for all kids and teens. By declaring the mental health crisis a national emergency, our federal government can help mobilize resources and activities to address children's needs.

We cannot stand by as threats of violence against our members and their patients proliferate with little consequence. We call on @thejusticedept to investigate these attacks and social media platforms to reduce the spread of the misinformation enabling them.
