Appreciate the opportunity to present at today’s Summit. There is a need for public health approaches to address increasing rates of self-harm, as well as research with young people to better understand why they are self-harming. #BDISummit @ANUPopHealth
Replying to @ACalear
@ACalear recommends we reduce kids access to paracetamol by not leaving it around the house to reduce the increasing self harm rates in young people thru paracetamol poisoning. Typically, this harm is an impulsive act w only an hour lead time @blackdoginst @Mental_Elf #BDISUMMIT

Great to see the release of this report that provides clear and tangible recommendations to address self-harm with paracetamol in Australia. Research with Australian young people also needed to better understand self-harm in this population. @ANUPopHealth
“The review found that self-harming with paracetamol tends to be impulsive, with young people taking what is readily available in the home, and often as a first attempt." @HM_Christensen Read more → bit.ly/3qzSAWT

SMHR felt it was no longer appropriate that our society's highest award (The Founders Medal) was named after only men. We are excited to add 3 new awards, to sit at the same level as the Founders Medal, recognising outstanding women working in mental health research #SMHR22
