If you don’t know, I started swimming laps a few years ago to beat the midwestern winter blues. It’s been a fun and incredible journey. This post isn’t about that.
I was at a rec center in Chicago, checking into the pool, and surprised by a, “Hello Mr. McGuire!”

It was so great to learn he’s 26 now, has a job, and hangs out with his friends on his days off. My student graduated a few years ago from Sullivan High School and has been participating in community since. My former student is on the spectrum.

7 years after leaving the beautiful Sullivan community, im reminded of the beauty, inclusivity, and community we shared. So grateful for my former student for taking the time to say Hi.

Incredibly proud of our growth. 10 @Detroitk12 Bands performed at our jamboree today. New uniforms, instruments, higher difficulty music, and more students enjoying than our previous 2 years. We are still rising!

Incredible department meeting this week. We covered Storytelling to influence Leadership and Decision-making, bringing together our mission, vision, initiatives and objectives. So many Ah-ha moments. Proud of this team and the work we are doing to make a better Detroit.
