Historic Yates Mill County Park has a long history with A.E. Finley. In '47, N.C. Equipment Co bought the mill and built a retreat lodge. In '01, the A.E. Finley Foundation helped turn the old mill into a @WakeGovParks, including the A.E. Finley Center for Education & Research.

Back in 1949, A.E. Finley proudly showed off NCEC’s industrial and construction equipment at the #NCStateFair. A brilliant promoter, he never missed a chance to connect with potential customers. While a lot has changed, we still love seeing what NC has to offer at the State Fair.

The NC State Football stadium was renamed Carter-Finley Stadium in 1979 at the season opener against ECU. This weekend, as the Wolfpack kicks off the season against the ECU Pirates once again, we remember Mr. Finley’s dedication to education and love for college athletics.

The iconic tractor sign, originally on A.E. Finley’s North Carolina Equipment Company, has presided over Hillsborough Street for over 80 years. The building has been replaced, but students will still be greeted by Mr. Finley’s tractor this week as they move in.

It's National Peaches & Cream Day, the perfect time to remember Fin-Crest Orchards. Mr. Finley purchased an orchard in 1958, and it blossomed under his leadership. By 1959 thousands of new peach trees were planted. Located on Lake Wheeler Road, the land is now owned by @NCState.

As baseball gets underway, we remember A.E. Finley’s passion for the sport. An amateur baseball player in VA, he brought the love of the game with him to NC. He helped found Raleigh Hot Stove League and supported Am. Legion baseball. Photo is the 1939 NC Equip. Co. softball team.

The adage “Behind every successful man, there is a strong woman” was true with A.E. and Marian. A devoted wife, Marian was known as the inspiration for her husband. Scrapbooks are filled with cards. Marian’s memory lives on at the Finley-Nottingham Rose Garden at NCSU Arboretum.

In his New Year letter to the NC Equipment Co. employees at the start of 1955, we get a glimpse of A.E. Finley’s well-known inspirational leadership. “…take ahold with renewed vigor in a firm attempt to make 1955 a Year we can look back upon with great Pride and Satisfaction.”
