Darnell Nurse, @EdmontonOilers defensemen, definitely took a step back this past season. A $9M AAV for 4 more years isn’t something to gloss over… but for a team with an abundance of cap space and a need for defensemen, adding Nurse could be a solid bet. #NHL

In reading some of the reactions today, apparently all Darnell Nurse had to do was request a trade to have people fawning over his play and contribution to the Oilers' success. It's borderline hagiography.

Michael McCarron resigns with @mnwild for $3.3M AAV on a six year(!) contract. Our projection was probably low, especially after good playoffs. An AAV coming in just below $3M probably would've been fine. The rising cap likely makes this less of an issue but six year term is not advisable. This contract gives Trent Frederic vibes from last year.

Recommend @domluszczyszyn piece below laying out the conundrum with Alex Tuch. His market value is absolutely at least $10M but definite concerns about how things age. Tuch having a more diverse skill set could help there.
Bigger picture - this same conversation is going to be had a lot in the next few years as UFA classes remain thin and teams have money to spend.
