The NFT space in a nutshell: 2017-2020, artists made art, minted art, shared art and collected art from each other. A few collectors collected with conviction and ended up with a great portfolio of early NFT art history. 2021 comes along. Lots of artists come in looking to get rich because of Beeple (who was literally an industry plant in this space) Lots of dumb money comes in and starts buying up all the early pre-2021 “historical” GARBAGE that nobody here ever wanted. Why? They didn’t know what they were doing and they sorted by cheapest, bought, and invented narratives. Now, everybody here follows a fake narrative, the space is overrun with dumb money STILL (they never understood it was never about pfps) and everyone who built this space either persists because fuck you, or they left. They didn’t sell the gems from the REAL heyday of NFTs. They just held. And they either stayed or left. And everybody continues to buy garbage. Stuff that the people who built this space never wanted and still don’t want. The space is a shell of its former self, existing to extract, scam, and die a quiet death. And I’m one of a SMALL handful of OGs who will speak the truth. Most left or hide behind the huge stack of money they made in the early days, still playing it safe, still enjoying the money they made 6 years ago, still patronized by the same collectors hoping for a resurgence so they can empty their bags. Not many real ones around here.
