If you do not renew your CIP, then, like most other certifications, you are no longer certified and should not use the designation or logo.

Just a reminder that, like most other certifications, you must renew your CIP certification every 3 years. You can renew by retaking and passing the current exam, or by submitting 60 CEUs and paying the renewal fee. 1/2

The good news is you can reinstate your CIP by submitting the CEUs and paying a slightly higher reinstatement fee, OR by passing the exam again.

If you do NOT complete your CIP CEUs and payment within the 3-year renewal cycle, your CIP has lapsed and you should not use the letters, logo, etc.

CIPs can get CEUs from AIIM events and training, of course, but also ARMA, IAPP, PMI, even internal and vendor events can count provided they are educational in nature and relate to the CIP or information management more broadly.

CIPs, your irregular reminder that you have to maintain your CIP just like any other certification. Two parts: 1) submit CEUs and 2) pay renewal fee. This is an every three years thing.
