Earlier today I watched Julia Waters speak - just finished filing the final pieces. Ofsted has said it has confidence in its inspection of Caversham school but no further comment today

1/3 Great article from @Helen_Amass here. Notes that 9% of children have still not passed phonics test by end Y2. Only c. 1% will have severe learning difficulties or other complex needs... rest will be disadvantaged, dyslexic or have language needs. So .. tes.com/magazine/teaching-le…
3/3 its heart, whch was seen to be anti-phonics. It's not. Phonics taught every day but in personalised way along with language, fluency, comprehension. Orthodoxies don't help the children who find it hardest to learn to read.
2/3 So what can we do for the real strugglers? We had a national solution once. Was called Every Child a Reader. It worked - got 80% of these children back to expected standard in 12-20 weeks. But it was cancelled because felt not to fit phonics orthodoxy. Had Reading Recovery at
