Survival is tracked from the date of diagnosis through cancer registrars in each state, who then compare survival rates of children with cancer to those without cancer. This gives researchers a realistic sense of the prognosis for a disease that is not skewed by unrelated causes of deaths. It also helps track if treatments are really working, which is a critical data point in the fight for cures for all children with cancer. There are many inspiring moments at Great Chefs Event, but none more powerful than hearing from a family who has experienced childhood cancer firsthand. 💛 Today, we're honored to welcome the Matthews family to the stage to share their childhood cancer journey and the impact that research, support, and community can have during the most difficult times. Their story is a powerful reminder of why we gather each year, to create better treatments, safer cures, and more hope for every child facing cancer. Thanks to the generosity of World Gold Council, donations made today will be matched up to $25,000, doubling your impact for children with cancer and their families> alexslemonade.org/contribute…

Mainstays of cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and transplant) can be curative, but come at a cost. Chemotherapy can damage hearts and hearing. Radiation can impact neurocognitive development. Surgery can weaken bones. Transplant can devastate growth. Newer treatments offer hope for less side effects and more cures. Let's hear it for childhood cancer hero Layla's lemonade stand 📣🍋 Layla held her first lemonade stand for ALSF last year while in frontline treatment for B-ALL. After watching a video about Alex Scott, she knew she wanted to help too. Layla & Friends served homemade lemonade and baked goods, as well as original artwork. Their stand raised more than $2,000 (and counting) to fund research for for kids with cancer! As she was counting her donations, Layla said to her mother Lisa, “I wonder if Alex knew her idea would get so big and inspire so many kids." Layla is currently in cycle 5 of maintenance. If everything continues to go well she will ring the bell in October 💛

This week's featured childhood cancer hero is Kade Fuller! Kade is a smart, loving, protective kid who is the life of the party. When his mom noticed a weird spot on his eye, she knew something was wrong. Months later, he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation helped him get to his treatments through the Travel For Care program. He was in remission for years, but recently relapsed. Today, he is having his eye replaced with a prosthetic. His family has held a lemonade stand every year during Lemonade Days to help other kids like Kade! Read more of Kade's hero story here -> alexslemonade.org/hero/kade-… 💛
