A&L Great Lakes is an independently owned laboratory. The science of agricultural analysis is our core, but so are the people we provide our analysis for.
ALGL has led the way in environmental testing since 1980, formally launching our Environmental Dept in 1993 to test for heavy metals & PCBs.

As one of the first commercial labs, ALGL announced the adoption of M3-ICP to clients in 1991.
Using M3-ICP is very common among commercial laboratories today and has been rapidly adopted in recent years by the agronomy industry and research.

As we celebrate 50 years of A&L Great Lakes Laboratories, we’re proud to honor the people who built the foundation of who we are today. Today we honor Dr. Richard Large, the “L” in A&L Agricultural Laboratories.

Donald (Don) Ankerman was an agronomist at heart — and the “A” in A&L Agricultural Laboratories.
His impact on the company and the agricultural community continues to be felt decades later.

Soil Sample Shipping Tip: For the strongest possible box bottom, fold the flaps in opposite pairs , while taping with the "H" method (along seams and sides) provides superior strength for shipping and heavy soil samples.

The History of A&L Great Lakes starts before our establishment in 1976. In 1971, Dr. Richard Large and Don Ankerman started the business as United Agricultural Labs in Memphis, TN in a small, rented space.

The best place to find submission forms is on top of the sample within the box that contains the first sample. This way, the staff knows how many fields are in the box and the number of samples for each submission.

1987 ushered in a new chapter for ALGL with the construction of a new laboratory. Construction continued throughout the year, and some office and environmental staff moved in that fall. The remaining agricultural lab staff moved in the following spring.
