Good new report by the #EEB. Some of those graphs illustrate painfully well the urgency for forceful action against #PFAS. This ones show that exposure of toddlers exceed recommended limit values in the EU.
New report on toxic #PFAS☣️ #ForeverChemicals are a growing threat to the environment and #HumanHealth, with #EUcitizens still greatly exposed🚰 Analysis of 20 countries' PFAS limits reveals highly divergent approaches, and offers key recommendations👇🧵 eeb.org/library/briefing-pap…

#F-gases, who are contributing to the high and increasing amounts of persistent TFA in our waters, can in most cases be replaced. Also for heatpumps. @GlugeJuliane at #FLUOROS2023

Why are we talking so much about PFAS and so little about responsibility? @ObergMattias at #Fluros2023 Showing how it has been possible for fluor industry to downplay and hide these risks due to structures in our current structures for regulation and research sice 1960:s.

The restaurant conversation at #FLUOROS2023 naturally diverged into looking at the beading behavior of olive oil on the surfaces of everything around us to look for #PFAS. … Then Xenia Trier went to the kitchen to grab a non-stick pan. w Lisa Skedung ⁦@ALennquist#legend

Glad to enjoy the beautiful town of Idstein and the brightest minds in #PFAS science at @PERFORCE3_ITN and #Fluoros2023. Learning a lot and trying to contribute with the perspective that many companies are both willing and capable to move away from PFAS.

Fluoropolymers simply are not safe. Both manufacturing and waste handling leads to tremendous environmental PFAS pollution. And this material cannot withstand heating above 450C. By then it releases toxic fumes leads to the medical condition “polymer fever” aka “Teflon flu”.

While PFAS holds a number of unique properties and substitution can be challenging, functional, cost-effective and scalable alternatives are continuously being developed. Also for uses where this has been deemed "impossible". chemsec.org/find-out-how-to-…

Important mapping of how PFAS producers knew already in the 1960:s that PFAS was toxic and found in human blood, but systematically hid and diverted attention from this for decades.
BREAKING: PRHE scientists analyzed chemical industry documents showing how #PFAS manufacturers covered up the harms of their products. Time to strengthen #EPA regulations to ensure this can't happen again. annalsofglobalhealth.org/art…

This is important to remember - the WHY we need a swift and strict ban on PFAS. It might be a bit uncomfortable and bumpy for some, it is in the nature of transition. But there is really no other way forward now.

"While the average market price of PFAS is about €19 (about $20.75) for each kilogram, the price spikes to about €18,734 ($20,456.78) for each kilogram when societal costs are factored in."

Leaving #SETACDublin fully energized socially and intellectually! But also frustrated so much scientific resources are needed to just to identify and quantify chemical pollution. We desperately need a more responsible and transparent design, production and use of chemicals.
