Useless fact of the day: Grace Jones went to the Thorntons factory in Belper to get the chocolate heads made.
I have to recommend this fantastic album to people who aren't familiar with Grace Jones. β€œHurricane” mixes trip hop, industrial, art pop, and dub wonderfully to sound bold and inventive. To me, this is her masterpiece that should be more discussed.

Proper bit of history now. A UK Soundclash between two of the best. 39 years ago: This is The Wild Bunch (@MassiveAttackUK) v Soul II Soul Soundclash 31.12.87 The collective that would become Massive Attack versus a superb early collective. Cassette aesthetic, proper history clash business. Second time The Wild Bunch have been on the page, I'll link the other in comments. Reminder that all mixes uploaded here today go on my Kofi for download tonight. πŸ‘‡πŸ”₯πŸ‘‡

Love this song but never understood why Psycho Les shouts "Fuck Leicester!" Is he a Coventry fan? Hates Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy? Not a lover of Walkers crisps and pork pies? I guess we'll never know πŸ˜†
Aiiight. The people have spoken today. Y'all uninformed, uncultured, gremlins, who make $ off this here, need to stick to whatever's popular and leave that hip hop stuff to us gatekeepers πŸ˜‚ do better man. Beatnuts feat Big Pun & Cuban Linx "Off the books" '97 TURN IT UP!

We should talk about Sex Packets the same way we talk about 3 Feet High and Rising and Nation of Millions.
Sex Packets by the Digital Underground remains one of the most innovative 1990s rap albums. So, for @Passionweiss dot com, I spoke to Money B and Atron Gregory about its creation. I hope you go away from this long read thinking Shock G was a genius: powmag.net/p/prince-cleared-…

I used to play this Lord Sear 12” out frequently back in the day. Coincidentally the last record I bought has a Sear skit on it.

37 years ago today, De La Soul release their debut LP, 3 Feet High and Rising, on Tommy Boy Records. selected by the Library of Congress as a 2010 addition to the National Recording Registry, which selects recordings annually that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, it’s one of the most innovative hip-hop records ever recorded. Prince Paul was a mad genius on here, practically inventing the β€œhip-hop skit”. he stepped in like a crazy hybrid of Malcolm McLaren and George Martin. Tom Silverman once credited De La as being the group that jumpstarted rap’s β€œthird generation.” the first generation had taken rap from the parks to records, and the second had taken it from records to the arenas. the third reclaimed it for themselves - reinventing traditions and creating new revolutions. they idolized the energy and accomplishments of the first, while trying to displace the second. a veritable how-to guide on hip-hop sampling, I’m still catching shit on this record 3 decades later. a masterpiece. rest easy, Dave. #RIPTrugoy #RIPDave

Has anyone done a deep dive article on how these Urban Records releases and Simon Harris Breakbeats albums shaped UK dance music production?
Bobby Byrd Hot Pants (bonus beats) went on to influence a series of tunes including the Roses, a sublime piece of music
