2025 was the deadliest year on record for journalists. At least 129 of our colleagues were killed, and two out of every three by Israeli forces. Most were from the MENA region. AMEJA stands in solidarity with every journalist risking their lives to document reality.

My @pressfreedom colleagues & I @CPJ_union fight everyday to protect journalists under threat from abusive forces. Our efforts receive widespread appreciation and acclaim. If we are forced to strike due to unfair labor conditions who will do this critically important work?
Our members at @cpj_union are fighting for a fair contract with @pressfreedom. After their contract expired on March 31st, 100% of members signed onto a strike pledge to show management we’re prepared to do what it takes to win strong union protections. ⏰

All of us at Drop Site News are deeply saddened by the loss of Ahlam Al Nafed, a journalist and photographer who spent the last 15 months fearlessly documenting the horrors in Gaza. Ahlam was a trusted source, providing detailed reporting, video, and information to Drop Site News and others. For the past 100 days, Ahlam chronicled the genocide in northern Gaza, capturing evidence of Israeli war crimes from the besieged Indonesian Hospital. Through her words and images, she ensured that atrocities which might have been silenced were brought to light, allowing the world to witness the brutal reality unfolding there. Today, Ahlam was killed by Israeli forces as she was walking to Al Shifa Hospital. Ahlam is survived by her sister Reem, a nurse at the Indonesian Hospital. Just last week, Ahlam tragically lost her father, who passed away from a chronic medical condition after being unable to access treatment due to Israel’s ongoing blockade. To Reem, and to all who love Ahlam, we extend our deepest condolences. Ahlam’s work documenting the attacks on the Indonesian Hospital was irreplaceable. She was one of the last remaining voices in northern Gaza—a voice the world desperately needed. Without her, the full extent of Israel’s actions might never have been known.
