Big thanks to co-author @SenHenryStern for helping carry #SB1259 through the Senate and speaking up in support of refinery communities across CA. Knowing the real cleanup costs before a refinery closes means communities can plan ahead instead of being blindsided. Thank you! 🌟

Many sectors of the energy industry are required to plan for what happens if they close their facilities. So should oil refineries. That's why I authored #SB1259. I am glad to report that the Senate passed the bill today. @APEN4EJ @CBECal @cejapower Read more. sd38.senate.ca.gov/news/sena…

Next: the bill heads to an even more difficult committee, Senate Energy and Utilities, and Big Oil are ramping up their misinformation. We need to make sure Senators hear from you, not industry lobbyists. Find out more and contact your lawmakers now at RefineryTransparency.org.

Last week, flaring at @ValeroEnergy's Benicia refinery blanketed the community in toxic smoke and soot. Refinery closures are inevitable — but without proper planning and health and safety protections, frontline residents pay the price. nbcbayarea.com/news/local/be…

I applaud the hard work and thoughtfulness that went into this. There is much to learn from this report on what happens to taxpayers, workers, public health and communities when an oil refinery closes and how to plan for it. As Chair of EQ, I am mindful of the challenges we face as we move away from fossil fuels and toward a clean energy future.

We’re preparing for a future beyond oil. As oil refineries close, we need decision makers to step up to protect residents, workers, & local economies. Lawmakers have a choice: let Big Oil and developers exploit this moment, or guide the transition. Read apen4ej.org/p66

The rich and powerful are trying to use this election to buy our democracy and turn back the clock on so much of what our communities have fought for. Luckily, they don’t decide California’s future – we do 🔥 2024 APEN Action endorsements ➡️➡️ apenaction.org/endorsements
