Our attorney general needs to hold Prospect’s leaders accountable for what they’ve done, and Pennsylvania lawmakers must pass legislation to keep private equity out of our hospitals: Opinion inquirer.com/opinion/comment… via @phillyinquirer
Stated meeting of @PHLCouncil opens with a prayer. Meeting starting over an hour later as Council held an Appropriations Committee hearing just before. #PhlEd
Wondering if @PHLschoolboard Pres Streater read this charter application; questions are very general. APPS members did read the app--we have some very specific questions about app deficiencies/omissions/misleading information #PhlEd
#CAB board member (and Belmont Charter CEO) asks about the deficiencies of Hillsdale app; atty says Hillsdale has "no intention" of violating any state requirements. Problem he skirts is that the law requires specific assurances in the application itself.
It is not an ad-hominem attack to say that an attorney's comments reflect a lack of understanding of this state's curriculum alignment requirements. #CAB
Atty Petersen: the answer to all the questions is NO. Atty for Hillsdale does not appear to understand what "curriculum alignment" means. Also, there is no social/emotional part of the curriculum. Portrayal of races in history lacked full perspective. #CAB
"Classics" means "Christian conservative" is what the atty for Hillsdale is not saying here at #CAB. Hillsdale is an extremely conservative curriculum.
Atty Petersen: important to understand that Hillsdale's curriculum DOES NOT align to PA standards in several subjects; what they do in other states is irrelevant. #CAB That is grounds for denial in itself.
Atty Petersen: I could go on all day enumerating the problems w/ Hilldale charter app--academic, organizational, financial. One: no letters of support from local elected officials or community orgs. #CAB
W Chester SD atty Petersen: Hillsdale app provisions violate PA charter law, incl paying board members and having board mtgs out of state--Hillsdale refers to these problems as "minutiae". #CAB
Atty Alison Petersen speaks on behalf of W Chester district which has denied the Hillsdale charter app. Petersen tells #CAB that articles of incorporation are missing--even in revised app.
