APS Crest History: The crest was created by Perry McLeod-Shabogesic of Nipissing First Nation. At its center is the Thunderbird, representing strength, integrity, protection, and goodness. The circle reflects balance, life, nature, and the Creator’s plan, while the forests and waters honour the lands and communities APS serves. 🪶 Miigwech to Perry for sharing his vision and artistry with APS.

Earlier today, the Anishinabek Police Service launched a public awareness campaign to highlight the actions and behaviours used by abusers to harm and control survivors. 𝐂𝐨𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 involves repeated acts of humiliation, intimidation, isolation, exploitation, manipulation to control or dominate you by making you feel afraid, ashamed, anxious, unsure or upset. It is a pattern of behaviour aimed at maintaining power over an intimate partner and is frequently accompanied by acts of physical or sexual coercion. And it isn’t an accident. Every time a person uses abusive behaviours, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨. When it comes to coercive control, the signs can be hard to spot because it often starts slowly or builds up over time. Please watch our social media accounts this week to learn more about ‘red flag’ behaviours you may notice. Full news release: lnkd.in/eNyRf3Nn

The Anishinabek Police Service is pleased to announce the introduction of Project Aakode’ewin (Bravery) – the Anishinaabe name for its new two-year pilot Victim Services Navigator Program. The goal of Project Aakode’ewin is to increase the likelihood of equitable outcomes for members of our First Nation communities who are disproportionately impacted by crime and violence by ensuring they are connected to culturally grounded, dignified, Indigenous-led, trauma-informed, direct support and assistance. A first of its kind at APS, this program will greatly enhance the existing support framework for victims of crime. Full news release is available on our Newsroom: anishinabekpolice.ca/anishin…

On Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 1:55 pm, a test of Alert Ready will sound in Ontario as part of Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3-9, 2026). The Alert Ready emergency alert test will be broadcast on television, radio and compatible wireless devices connected to an LTE or 5G network. The test message will simulate an emergency alert, beginning with an alert tone. The message will indicate that it is a test and does not require action from the public. Please do not call 9-1-1 for information about the test. Using 9-1-1 for non-emergency calls could delay help for people experiencing real emergencies. Those living with intimate partner violence may have an emergency cell phone hidden. During the Alert Ready test, these phones will go off, potentially putting lives at risk. If you are using a hidden phone or tablet as part of your personal safety planning, take steps now to stay safe during the alert: be sure to power these devices off to avoid discovery.
