🚨KAUA'I: ‘Anini Road closed near Kalihiwai Road intersection due to downed tree
KĪLAUEA – The Department of Public Works is advising motorists that ‘Anini Road is closed near its intersection with Kalihiwai Road due to a downed tree blocking the roadway.
The tree is leaning on nearby power lines, and vehicles are currently unable to pass through the area. Kauaʻi Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) is responding to clear the lines before the tree can be safely removed and the road reopened.

Army Pvt. Joe Gandara
Son of Mexican immigrants, Joe Gandara jumped into Normandy with the 82nd Airborne on D-Day.
Three days later near Amfreville, pinned down by enemy fire, he charged alone—firing his machine gun from the hip—destroying three German positions before he was killed.
His bravery saved his buddies.
Initially awarded the DSC, Gandara received the Medal of Honor nearly 70 years later in a 2014 White House ceremony.

🚨KAUAI POLICE
LĪHU‘E – The Kauaʻi Police Department is providing the following update regarding the search for William “Billy” Sinclair.
This morning, officers located Sinclair near the Kapaʻa Public Library. A foot pursuit ensued, during which Sinclair entered the ocean behind the library and is currently isolated in the water.
Officers are attempting to negotiate his surrender.
Members of the public are urged to continue to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to operate safely and efficiently.
Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
