Before joining AQA, Graeme spent 20 years in the City before moving into teaching, driven by a desire to make a difference. He then taught maths for 10 years, helping students realise their potential.​ One challenge that stayed with him was engaging Year 10 students in a low-ability GCSE Maths class, an experience that continues to shape how he supports teachers and learners today. His favourite moments came when students took the lead in their own learning, collaborating to solve problems on whiteboard walls while he stepped back. ​ Even in his spare time, Graeme enjoys exploring these areas. He is carrying out doctoral research on maths education, assessment and gender at the UCL Institute of Education, combining his classroom experience with research to find new ways to support teachers and students. #Teammaths #smartersupport #IntroducingTeamMaths

Financial literacy is set to become a core part of the curriculum, following publication of the Curriculum & Assessment Review. During #NumberConfidenceWeek, @SchwitzerEd and Natalie Wilson from AQA met the APPG on Financial Education to demo our new numeracy app. We had an energising discussion about how we can better equip young people with the confidence and capability to manage their money and make informed financial decisions. Financial education is in high demand. The interim report of the Curriculum and Assessment Review states that its panel of experts heard consistently that learners and parents want more focus on skills to equip them for life and work, like financial education. The London Institute of Banking and Finance found that 8 out of 10 young people said they wanted to learn more about money and finance at school. Only 1% of teachers say their pupils possess adequate financial skills. At AQA, we’re developing an on-demand teaching and learning app and assessment which allows students to show their real life numeracy skills in a way that sits alongside GCSE Maths. @BeckyFrancis7 @educationgovuk
