This bottle was discovered inside the Penallt war memorial during renovations in 2014. The Conservator at Gwent Archives had to make the decision on what to do - Leave the paper inside? Cut the bottle open? Or try to remove the paper through the bottle neck? #EYAdecisions

This charming little volume holds more than just stories—it reveals a glimpse into its own creation! The bottom part of the spine is missing, exposing binder’s waste,  where scraps of recycled materials were used to strengthen the book during binding. [Simples Contes, 1836.]
