ALT Oral History Research Project on Black-Jewish Relations in Alexandria, Virginia The Office of Historic Alexandria is conducting an oral history project in July 2024 surrounding Black-Jewish relations in and around the Civil Rights era (1950s-60s) in Alexandria, Virginia. The researcher is looking to interview Black and Jewish Alexandrians who were in Alexandria at the time on their perceptions, experiences, and perspectives. This oral history project aims to understand the under-documented perceptions, interactions, and relationships between these two groups as they concern Alexandria’s unique position as a Southern city adjacent to Washington, D.C. They also encapsulate important personal narratives and preserve subjective historical accounts and reactions.
