Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day and the histories, cultures, contributions, and resilience of Indigenous peoples. Each year, the UO holds a tribal flag ceremony in the EMU Amphitheater on the Eugene campus to mark the day and honor Oregon's nine federally recognized tribes and all indigenous peoples who call Oregon home.

We are extremely disappointed with the actions of some UO fans at the football game against BYU who chose to chant hateful speech. Sporting events should be a unifying time for people and a fun place to engage in friendly competition.

But, it is important that we call each other out when we see and hear hateful speech in ALL scenarios. It is never acceptable. Moving forward, we hope UO students can lead by example in how to cheer on our teams respectfully. - The ASUO Executive.
