The Department of War has revised the religious affiliation codes to improve personnel tracking. This framework helps commanders and our Chaplain Corps to coordinate vital spiritual care. Our Team remains deeply committed to ensuring that the beliefs of our service members and civilians are respected and encouraged. #FollowUs #ManpowerAndReserveAffairs #TotalForce
Last week, a proposed list of simplified faith codes was released to the media. The Pentagon list included redundant and unnecessary labeling, and the mistake has been fixed. The goal of this effort is to simplify a previously out-of-control “belief” coding system that had ballooned to over 200 codes. In order to clarify the work of chaplains, and simplify the work of commanders, the Pentagon has consolidated and simplified the list to roughly thirty codes — using the previously used labels for faiths. The Pentagon’s job is not to adjudicate theological debates, but instead to ensure sincerely-held faith is respected and encouraged in our ranks. Below is the updated Religious Affiliation Codes (RAC) list:

Staff Sergeant Brett bender is officially back in the formation. After separating due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, the 68W Combat Medic has been reinstated to the Army with full seniority, backdated promotion to E-6 and battle benefits completely restored. What makes this homecoming even more special is that he and his family are already preparing to head overseas for his next assignment to continue to the noble profession he feels called to do. Seeing a dedicated professional return to the mission to serve his country and fellow soldiers is exactly what the total force is all about. Welcome home, SSG Bender. It’s an honor to have you back on the team. #ManpowerAndReserveAffairs #FollowUs #WelcomeBack
Proud to welcome back another brave warrior who was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, Brett Bender. Sergeant Bender, a 68W Combat Medic, was involuntarily separated in July 2022, leading to significant hardship for him and his family. With support from the @USArmy COVID-19 Reinstatement & Reconciliation Task Force - and under the leadership of @SecWar and @SecArmy - he was reinstated in March 2026 with full relief, including backpay, a backdated promotion to E-6, MOS & duty station preference, entitlements, benefits, and constructive service credit. Now, Staff Sergeant Bender and his family are preparing to head overseas for his next assignment. He shared, “I have long felt called by the Lord to serve the men and women who serve our country, and I do not take the opportunity to return to that noble profession lightly. I am excited to continue my career and encouraged to once again…serve my country and my fellow soldiers.” Welcome back to the formation, SSG Bender!

Total force readiness relies directly on how we support and retain our highly skilled civilian workforce. The Under Secretary of War for Personnel and Readiness, Anthony J. Tata, recently engaged with our organizational partners to review advancements in building a modernized pay and performance system specifically for our wage-grade shipbuilders. This initiative directly aligns personnel policy with strategic defense priorities, ensuring our compensation structures reward excellence and remain competitive. By optimizing workforce incentives, the department continues to invest in the critical talent required to sustain and grow our national shipbuilding capabilities. #FollowUs #ManpowerAndReserveAffairs #TotalForce @POTUS @SecWar @USW_PR_HONTata
Spent a fantastic Friday morning with the Project Triton team. This group is working hard to build a better pay & performance system for our wage-grade shipbuilders in line with @POTUS & @SecWar priorities. Hats off to the talented graphic recorder who diagrammed my remarks in real time!

In case you missed the rollout earlier this year, the commissary home delivery program is active and expanding at dozens of bases across the country. If you live on base, you can easily shop online for fresh produce, meats and everyday staples and have them delivered straight to your home in just a few hours. Plus, as a bonus to keep your grocery bill down, the commissary is no longer charging you for single-use plastic or paper bags. It is an incredible way to save time and make full use of your benefits without the extra trip. Skip the crowded aisles this week and take advantage of this convenience right from your living room. Loving what you do makes all the difference. In this video, Joel Helston shares why he loves working for Department of War Education Activity (DOWEA), especially because he gets to collaborate with teachers who come from all over the world. Learning from their different backgrounds has helped him grow his own teaching strategies for his students and you can see that joy on the children's faces. It takes strong collaboration and teamwork, from our excellent educators in the classroom to the essential behind-the-scenes support, to create a school where military children truly thrive. We are always looking for the next generation of people who want to take education to the next level. If you want to join a group that cares this deeply about the future, you belong here. True readiness starts at home and supporting military spouses as they grow professionally is a huge part of that. Today, Stephen B. Simmons, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP), joined our partners to discuss fresh, collaborative ways to tackle spouse unemployment and smooth out the unique career transitions our families face. We are looking at ways to make career paths adapt right along with the military lifestyle, making it a lot smoother to stay with the Department of War. When our families are supported and thriving, the entire foundation is stronger. #ManpowerAndReserveAffairs #FollowUs #MilSpouse #TotalForce
