A convicted cockfighter is running for the Oklahoma Legislature. Anthony DeVore, founder of the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission and currently on probation following a cockfighting conviction, is seeking election to House District 19. Animal Wellness Action says voters should reject candidates who support weakening Oklahoma's anti-cockfighting laws, noting that cockfighting is tied to illegal gambling, organized crime, and animal cruelty. With primary elections approaching, the debate over animal fighting has become a major political issue in Oklahoma.

The USDA just hit pause on horse exports to Mexico because of the growing threat posed by New World screwworm. For years, advocates have argued that shipping American horses across borders for slaughter is cruel, unnecessary, and risky. Now, a major biosecurity threat is reinforcing that case. The temporary suspension protects agriculture today. The next step should be a permanent ban on exporting American horses for slaughter. Congress has the opportunity to finish the job.

Congress just took a meaningful step in the fight against animal fighting. The House approved bipartisan legislation providing $2 million for federal investigations into dogfighting, cockfighting, animal trafficking, and related criminal activity. Strong laws matter—but so does enforcement. This funding will help investigators target the organized networks that profit from animal cruelty, illegal gambling, and violence. Now it's time to finish the job and pass the FIGHT Act.

According to a report by the Cowboy State Daily, a suspect has come forward and admitted to shooting Django and Hera, the two Rottweilers found dead in the North Platte River near Torrington. The Goshen County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a suspect has been identified, though no charges have yet been announced. Just days ago, we offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The investigation remains ongoing, but the family may finally be one step closer to answers—and accountability.

Another 135 beagles are leaving Ridglan Farms this week. That brings the total number of dogs removed from the Wisconsin laboratory breeding facility to 1,635 beagles—one of the largest efforts ever undertaken to move dogs out of the research supply system and into homes.
