AWG Distinguished Lecturer Program Chair
The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) is looking for a volunteer to take on the Chair position of our Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP). The DLP currently offers over 100 lectures in 14 general topic areas given by well-known female speakers.
Chair responsibilities include:
1. Coordinating speaker requests and AWG partial funding for in-person or zoom lectures,
2. Maintaining a current speaker directory and their associated talk titles,
3. Submitting project funding requests and annual project reports to the AWG Foundation, and
4. Recruiting future DLP speakers.
The DLP Chair position is a vital part of AWG because the DLP encourages our speakers to engage students, professionals, and educators in the exchange of information, while also enhancing the professional visibility and growth of the speaker.

Currently, there are scholarship funds available for 20 teachers. The need for getting Earth Science offered at the High School level has never been stronger. Teachers taking this course discover Earth Science content, extensive teaching resources, and diverse career options for their students.

ALT Nominations will be solicited from the AWG membership at large. The impact and breadth of scientific contribution and community service will be evaluated as follows. Scientific Excellence and Impact Scientific contributions demonstrated through a candidate’s body of work showing new ideas for analytical methods, approaches or syntheses, resulting publications, and insights gained. Overall impact of a candidate’s work to her scientific field, and influence of current or future research. Distinguished Service and Broader ImpactDemonstrated benefits to others at local, national, and international levels from the candidate’s contributions. Community service through mentoring other geoscience professionals, collaboration with institutions of informal science education such as museums, nature and science centers. Development of outreach materials explicitly aimed at communicating effectively about science concepts for general audiences like K-12 students or teachers, professionals in other
ALT Nomination Packages should include: One to two-page letter summarizing the nominee’s significant contributions to Earth and space science, and impact of distinguished community service.
