These women paid off their student debt for decades and somehow still owe more than they borrowed. But a little-known provision gives Joe Biden the authority to cancel student debt for aging borrowers — and they’re calling on him to use it.

I believe people can learn, grow, and change. Clemency is mercy. I hope @POTUS considers additional action to help end racialized mass incarceration—something that is harming so many of our communities.
Today, @POTUS granted clemency to 1,500 people, most of whom had been serving their sentences at home under the CARES Act passed during the pandemic. We commend President Biden for this first step & urge him to take further action in his remaining days. coc.is/PFS

SPS has failed to prove to the school board that closing schools will not negatively impact students. Following tonight's school board meeting, a full withdrawal of the preliminary school closure plan seems imminent.

“A study notes that school closures often turn thriving neighborhoods into hollowed-out districts, deterring new families and reducing investment. What family would choose a neighborhood where the closest school has been boarded up, its purpose and promise forgotten?” Agree 💯
Great oped written by my co @schoolbpartners fellow on the impact of school closures. elpasomatters.org/2024/11/16…

We’ve known for decades WA’s tax structure is horribly regressive. Our state could be a leader in K-12 public education—but only by taxing the ultra wealthy. Nobody needs to be a multimillionaire. But we do need excellent public education for our children, our future!
It’s clear, experts agree. We need historic investment in our schools. With democratic wins in Washington state, our legislature’s paramount duty is to act. Fix our broken tax code. Pass progressive tax changes. Stop taxing the poor. Start taxing the rich.

Parent Rebekah Binns argues that while Seattle's "well-resourced schools" sound like a win for students, the reality is that class sizes will grow with reduced staffing, playing into Project 2025's designs for public education. Read the full op-ed here: soseaem.org/3YRSwCM

No school closings! Closing schools is often more expensive than leaving them open & is harmful to the most vulnerable students. Join us to discuss school funding, closures, and how our public schools can provide the education our young people deserve. @SeattleCORE206

Our tax structure is broken. I’m so glad we’ve been working to fix it. Grateful for all the folks who worked to ensure we can continue to Tax the Mega Rich to Fund Education!!

Please read! Common sense concerns over the governance structure Seattle School Board has thrown itself in for the last few years. 3 Board members just canceled a mtg with dozens of parents from 10 schools in NE; one reason they gave was SOFG’s view on community engagement (!)

Some people were asking me to explain my concerns with Student Outcomes Focused Governance (SOFG). Here's a medium post I wrote yesterday after I left the Council of the Great City Schools Fall Conference. medium.com/@uriahstp/a-criti…

Our ancestors who fought for our voting rights are still with us! Though we no longer pay a fee, we still face barriers built to keep us from the ballot box. The fight for our rights continues, and we’re here to carry the torch forward. ✊🏾 #RespectMyVote (Tiktok/gemstinations)
