What better way to celebrate GC Awareness than by spreading the word about our profession?! I spent the day in the exhibit hall at the @ABRCMS conference volunteering at the joint @GeneticsSociety @GeneticCouns booth! #IAmAGeneticCounselor #GeneChat @GOLDENDNA2 @minoritygenetic

Not @Naomi_CGC giving an ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL presentation on gene-based therapies to kick off #scgc22- like flawless, nearly impossible to follow- and then supporting and promoting the work of the other presenters all day long with her detailed tweets! #gcgoat

Scientists have completed all of the missing gaps in the human genome, but using one sequence to study all humans cannot possibly represent everyone!

To celebrate Black History Month we want to recognize a brilliant early voice in our field. This quote was taken from a 1985 article authored by Dr. Lorna Wilkerson, one of the first Black genetic counselors. At that time, Black GCs barely made up more than 0.1% of the workforce.

It's Family Health History Month! Culture and tradition are a large part of our family history, but did you know our health history is important too? It's not always easy, but discussing our relatives' health can help us understand our own health& take action to reduce our risks.

#BIGxWeek 2020 was a blessing. It changed my mindset around the work I do and reconnected me with my “why”. I joined Twitter to follow the conversation and had no idea that there was a whole GC community here on #GCChat OR that there were people who look like me doing it BIG!

My #BIGxStory starts at @HowardU! I was a junior Biology major. I made the decision that medical school wasn’t for me. That semester I took a Cross-Cultural Psychology class and the professor brought in a co-founder of @AfricanAncestry to give a presentation! I was enamored 1/4

…Mom was NOT feeling it. She had never heard of #geneticcounseling and I didn’t know enough about it to make it sound as amazing as it actually is. So I studied for the MCAT all summer because my mom told me to 😂 and when I got back to campus, I bought some GRE flashcards 3/4

While preparing to apply to GC programs, I learned there was one AT HOWARD🤦🏾‍♀️ and sent an email to the incredible @Barb_DNA_GC who kindly gave me my first GC shadowing experience!! She was SO great at her job that I KNEW I wanted to do it too and the rest is history! #BIGxWeek 4/4
