@VOCMOpenline I'm listening to your chat with Dennis Brown from Thursday. I don't understand his claim that a $300 swing in my power bill can't just be the weather. My bill swings between $100 or less in summer when I don't use heat to over $400 in winter when I'm using heat.

The huge swing in electrical costs is clearly weather related. I turn the heat on because it's cold out. Baseboard heaters use a lot of electricity. Just using the heat occasionally causes my bill to double in the fall. People need to compare power usage across years not months.

@VOCMOpenline CPP can be taken as early as 60 and as late as 70. You may want to take it at 70 instead of 65 in order to get a higher payment. This should definitely not happen automatically at 65.

@VOCMOpenline not meant as an insult, but where you're getting into your mid-50s, it would probably be a good time for you to take a retirement planning course or talk to a CFP as you've got a bunch of important decisions coming at you that have major tax implications

@VOCMOpenline isn't the caller missing that we get large equity stakes in the new dams for very minimal up front contributions?

The other thing, is caller is ignoring operating costs. Quebec may be paying $0.06 for the power, but the profit wouldn't be $0.06. You'd have to take operating costs out of that $0.06.

@VOCMOpenline is the issue immigration enforcement? My impression is that it's more the rates of immigration than the actual enforcement.

Also, the idea that it's people in poverty wanting to immigrate here is a bit of a stereotype. A lot of very middle class or upper middle class people are or want to move here.

@VOCMOpenline caller doesn't seem to realize that nearly half of global emissions come from countries other than China, the U.S., and India. We can't ignore the half of emissions coming from lower emissions. worldometers.info/co2-emissi…

It's also worth looking at per capita emissions. Canada and other wealthy nations have a lot more scope for reducing emissions than China and India.

My paper using FT-NIR to age Atlantic cod otoliths (ear "bones") was just published. We found that this method has similar accuracy and precision to aging fish by counting otolith annuli (growth rings) and can potentially reduce labour costs by 23 to 40%. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

@VOCMOpenline I'm struggling to see how 19 year old programmers are equipped to evaluate the effectiveness of government programs. As far as I can tell, they're just eliminating programs Musk doesn't like. If they were serious, they wouldn't have fired IGs.

@VOCMOpenline they're firing probationary employees for cause. In many cases it's been individuals who've received a ton of merit awards for job performance and took a higher level position aka promotion and are on probation for their new position.

@VOCMOpenline people in NL don't seem to think seniors in their 70s can have healthy, active lives. My mom's in her mid-70s and is still working part time by choice.

Just following up on your response. I'm sure not everyone thinks that way, but a lot of callers make it sound like seniors as a group aren't able to use tech, deal with complicated situations, are destitute. I know you have other callers who are seniors and very active

@VOCMOpenline there are approximately 1.5 million unemployed Canadians. None of them have the skills needed by NL businesses? What types of expertise are they not able to find in Canada?

Further to that, how long would it take people to complete the necessary training if the businesses provided it?
