I never gave up. I went on to earn two master’s degrees, a law degree, and a PhD. I became a public school math teacher. I met my wife, Berna. And we raised four boys together, including my nephew.

My family worked hard, but we struggled. There were nights where all my brother and I had to eat for dinner were stale candy bars that my father found next to the dumpster. We weren’t broken. But we didn’t have much. And we knew the only way out was hard work.

Steve will be sorely missed. I’ll always remember him as a staunch advocate for education and his belief that it could help lift everyone up.
I’m also grateful for his service to our country and his dedication to veterans throughout our community. His advocacy was unparalleled.
I’m grateful for his support over the years and am keeping his family in my prayers.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our friend, colleague, union brother, and lifelong advocate for public education, Steve Horner. He dedicated his life to public education, unions, and the belief that working people are strongest when we stand together.

Here's the truth: ICE and Border Patrol already have funding. Republicans want to hand these agencies $70 billion *on top* of the $150 billion they received last year. And they’re using this money to tear Nevada families apart.
That's funding that could go toward lowering monthly health premiums or power bills, or providing school lunches for our kids. Nevadans are struggling with high costs, we should be focused on that.
