I enjoyed listening to this episode w/ @abmakrani.
Here's what I learned about him and his domaining journey:
• Abdulbasit got into domaining in early 2000s because his father encouraged him to. The first domain he registered was traders.cc and he still owns it.
• He didn't take it seriously until 2010 when he started building his portfolio and went full-time. He now owns more than 11,000 domain names.
• Around 90% of his portfolio is .com. He doesn't invest in .io and .ai because he thinks he's already missed the entry point and now it's too late. He's also more comfortable investing in .com.
• He buys ~100 domains and sells ~20 on average per month.
• The #1 criteria for him when buying a domain is the number of potential buyers.
• He recently switched to @NamePros landers because he likes the control over the landers and leads. He's still experimenting with different options.
• He doesn't drop any domains because he'd rather just renewing all domains than spending time on each of them to determine whether it's worth renewing or not. (Time is money.)
• He's been guiding his sons (14&15) to build their own domain portfolio.
Thank you @domaindoktoru and @itsnotmytempo for hosting this show.
Thank you Michael!
1) Brady already clarified and I believe this is one impressive feature which almost no registrar has purposely implemented it.
2) I'm no longer interested in DLS or MLS because I've delisted my domains with Afternic/Sedo😀
If they offer half-off now, I may transfer in some more domains because it's worth saving some money when you've thousands of domains.
Correct, it makes no difference now about DLS/MLS.
