Day 13 at the
@Abia_Web3Net Web3 Foundation Bootcamp with
@OliverNonso01 and today we covered Research, Narratives and Market Understanding.
The cryptocurrency market is a very volatile one, prices can fall or rise within hours and minutes. Trends affect it a lot.
Research helps investors to identify valuable projects and avoid certain risks. Narratives explain why certain sectors or cryptocurrencies suddenly gain attention and attract money. Market understanding helps you recognize cycles, emotions, trends and behaviors.
WHAT IS RESEARCH IN CRYPTO?
Research in crypto is the process of studying a project properly before investing, trading, promoting or joining its community.
This includes reading the whitepaper, checking tokenomics, looking at onchain activity and verifying exchange listings.
You can research on platforms like CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, DefiLlama and Dune Analytics.
Things To Research On
> The problem it solves: Ask things like what is this project trying to fix and is there actual demand for it.
> Teams and Founders: Check if the founders are public, if they have credibility and if they have built successful projects before.
> Token Utility: Check if the token is actually used to solve problems or used within the ecosystem for things like governance and staking.
> Community Strength: In crypto, community is everything. Always check the Telegram, Discord, X and Reddit communities of the project.
Ask:
Are they active?
Are the discussions genuine?
Is it mostly bots and hype?
> Liquidity and Trading Volume: This shows whether people can easily buy or sell the token. Low liquidity makes prices volatile and dangerous.
> Security and Audits: Serious projects always ensure they are audited by security firms. Audits help to reduce risk of hacks or malicious smart contracts.
WHAT ARE NARRATIVES IN CRYPTO SPACE?
A narrative is the story or trend the market currently believes in. It influences attention. Attention attracts money. Money affects prices.
Examples:
> NFT
NFTs introduced digital ownership for art, music, gaming items and collectibles. This narrative pushed huge growth across many blockchain ecosystems.
> AI and Crypto
As artificial intelligence became popular globally, AI related projects started gaining attention. Companies like OpenAI boosted AI narratives in crypto.
> Meme Coins
A lot of tokens become popular mostly due to internet culture and communities e.g Dogecoin and Pepe.
Narratives do not always represent value, they mean attention. Paying attention early means positioning and taking advantage of that attention.
UNDERSTANDING MARKET CYCLE
Crypto market cycles refer to the repeated patterns of price movement and investor behavior that occur over time on the cryptocurrency market. It is often influenced by supply and demand, investor emotions, economic conditions, news and market narratives. A proper understanding of this helps investors make better decisions by recognizing the market pattern.
> Bull Market
This is a period where cryptocurrency prices rise consistently over time. They are often driven by optimism, strong narratives, institutional interest or major tech developments.
Common signs of a bull market
Prices making higher highs (ATH)
Investors coming in massively
There is Fear of Missing Out (FOMO).
Positive news and sentiment
> Bear Market
This is a period where cryptocurrency prices decline continuously over time. It occurs after excessive hype, economic uncertainty or large market corrections.
Common signs of a bear market
Prices making lower lows (ATL)
Panic selling
Reduced market activity
Negative news and sentiment
Investors losing and showing fear
The bear market can be difficult but it provides opportunities for long term investors to study about projects and for builders to provide value.
> Accumulation
Accumulation is the period where experienced investors start to gradually buy assets while public interest is still low. This phase usually happens after a major market decline. It is also the phase before major upward movements begin. It starts to provide major liquidity into the market.
> Distribution
Distribution is the period of time where investors or large holders start selling off their assets after a significant price increase. It occurs always at the top of the bull market while it signals market correction and transition into the bear market.
> Simple Market Cycle Flow
Accumulation > Bull Market > Distribution > Bear Market > Accumulation
This cycle repeats continuously in financial markets including cryptocurrencies. Investors who understand this do not trade by emotions.
MARKET SENTIMENT
This refers to the overall mood of investors. Crypto markets are heavily influenced by emotions.
> Fear and Greed Index
Fear is a period where investors are afraid to buy and tend to hold funds.
Greed is a period where investors are buying aggressively.
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is people buying because others are making money.
Panic Selling is people selling emotionally during market crashes.
Hopium is blind optimism without proper research.

HOW TO RESEARCH A COIN PROPERLY
Before investing in any cryptocurrency, ask these questions.
> What problem does the project solve?
> Does the token have real utility?
> Who are the competitors?
> Is the trading volume real?
> Is the community active?
> Is adoption growing?
> Are insiders constantly selling?
> Is the project surviving only on hype?
RED FLAGS DURING RESEARCH
Not every crypto project is legitimate, you should watch out for:
> Guaranteed profits (no investment is guaranteed).
> Anonymous or suspicious teams as lack of transparency increases risk.
> Fake partnerships where some projects lie about collaborations to create hype.
> Extremely low liquidity where you may struggle to sell your tokens later.
> Unrealistic APYs where very high returns are often not sustainable.
> Locked withdrawals; you should never ignore withdrawal restrictions.
Thank you @OliverNonso0 for today’s session. Research, narratives and market cycles are honestly the difference between informed decisions and emotional ones in this space. This was one of the most interactive sessions of the bootcamp.
Day 13 done. 1 more to go. See you tomorrow ❤️💡
