Something I've been thinking a lot about lately that's very hard to admit and took me about a decade to accept.
America is by far the best place to get wealthy, yet one of the worst places to enjoy one's wealth.
The average family has a better quality of life taking home 60K a year in a quaint European town than 600K in even a relatively prominent city in the U.S., say Phoenix or Denver.
I say this after traveling the world full time since 2005, visiting 50 countries and living in 7, as well as all across the States.

Out of touch leftists can’t understand the deeply rooted, traditionalist culture of Walmart, ranch dressing, and fast food.
Our European admirers are enjoying the fruits of Red America—the exact things that the Left has the most contempt for: Walmart. Guns. Ranch dressing. Country music. People getting fat off fast food. The very things that Leftist elites love to deride about America, often from the vantage point of what a sneering Frenchman might say, are the things our European visitors are most admiring of, because they are the things that are most recognizably American.

Places with the boomtown/frontier/wild west mentality always tend to be dangerous hellholes. Yes, you can get rich quick easier there. But once you're already rich, you'd be crazy to stay there.

The epitome of the frontier mentality is basically wanting to live in a dangerous hellhole because you can quickly make a lot of money there.
There's no logical reason to want to live in such a place if you aren't poor and super ambitious.

I miss the days when the online right was dominated by people praising traditional architecture rather than Buc-ee's.

I think a lot of Americans on the right have this perpetual frontier mentality.
Therefore, to them, the oldest parts of the US are actually the least American.
They will mock the far left for believing in permanent revolution, but they themselves want permanent frontier.

Twitter is making me increasingly convinced that the middle class have way too much cultural power. The upper class wouldn't put slop like Buc-ee's on a pedestal.
