The exchange of ideas across borders is one of the most powerful drivers of progress in academic surgery. The AAS International Visiting Professorship Awards support that exchange directly, providing travel funding for active AAS members to attend the annual meetings of international surgical societies, including the Taiwan Surgical Association, the West African College of Surgeons, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and the Colombian Surgical Association. Recipients also have the opportunity to host visiting international colleagues at the Academic Surgical Congress, building relationships that often shape research collaborations for years to come. Open to AAS members with a strong record of participation, demonstrated accomplishment in surgical research, and a current full-time academic appointment. Learn more and review eligibility for each award: aasurg.org/awards/travel-gra… Explore the full slate of awards and consider which exchange aligns with your research interests.

Technical proficiency alone is not enough to prepare for a career in pediatric surgery. In the latest piece on The Academic Surgeon, surgical resident Binyam Hundito reflects on what a rotation at Black Lion Hospital taught him that no textbook could — about inequity, adaptability, clinical judgment, and what it means to lead through service rather than authority. A perspective-shifting read for anyone in surgical training. 🔗 aasurg.org/the-importance-of…
