"Look at me! I have all the answers, but phantom enemies are hiding the truth" UFO personalities work overtime to make the subject a joke, reducing scientific interest. But @extreme_microbe has been here all along as a voice of scientific reason: bigthink.com/science-tech/coβ¦
Hyping the Gemini 7 recording included in the Gov UFO file dump is facepalm-worthy. Unsolved Mysteries (show that solidified Roswell's place in pop culture) uninvited astronaut Frank Borman when he explained to producers that the "bogey" he reported during Gemini 7 wasn't a UFO.
US Gov released more UFO files today. Yes, more. The US Gov and other govs have released UFO files many times before. Members of Congress and "disclosure advocates" hyping this up as some historic breakthrough tells you all you need to know about how informed they are about UFOs.
If you're new to the UFO discussion, here's a cheat sheet:
- The Gov has stated many times that UFOs are real.
- Presidents commenting on UFOs isn't unusual.
- Millions of gov UFO files have been released from US and other govs around the world.
- UFO files are generally boring.

For my fellow space nerds, expect an announcement soon about an upcoming news conference from NASA about our interstellar visitorβthe 3I/ATLAS comet.
NASA's news conference to reveal rock sample analysis from the Perseverance Mars rover begins at 8 a.m. Pacific. Don't get your hopes up for an alien announcement. I suspect we'll hear about potential biosignatures. Always cool for us astrobiology geeks. nasa.gov/live/
NASA is holding a media teleconference tomorrow (Sep. 10) to discuss rock sample analysis collected by the Mars Perseverance rover.

Personal UFO stories are cool. But all it does in this context is to perpetuate mystery. The Gov has repeatedly acknowledged the reality of UFOs. Adding more random UFO tales to the pile achieves nothing, aside from suggesting those pushing Congressional action only want mystery.
