A friend wanted to buy Honda CRV. Even when dollar dropped, prices were still high. He got someone to buy one for him in US. 2017 model. Price shipping was $9500. Duty was ¢65,000. At an exchange rate of ¢11.5, he saved some ~80, 000. Any profit of over ¢20,000 is thievery!
“We cannot go into the medical field to work because we are not medical professionals but why are some Doctors and other professionals importing cars in the country? We have to provide license to our members and anyone who want to import car should acquire that license” Mr. Desmond, the Kumasi Secretary of the Venicle and Assets Dealers Union ot Ghana (VADUG), also addressed members on the current state of the automobile dealership industry.

Our biggest enemy remains the port taxes. I think we should all learn to buy abroad and ship our own cars. That way we’d have to deal with only the port charges. There’re reputable companies that can facilitate that easily. Forget all these greedy dealers.

“¢380,000 plus shipping to tema port.. you’d only pay duty of ¢127,540”….. meanwhile car has already been shipped and cleared at the tema port months ago for ¢190,000 total😹😹
Ghanaians pay TWICE OR MORE the amount, in lump sums, for cars that Americans and Europeans pay with car financing deals. Think about that!

In all this, the honest car dealers are using this discourse to pitch their businesses. The greedy thieves are attacking me. Bro you’re in for a looong ride.

Mahama is the worst person to make excuses for. He’s been an MP, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President, and is now in his second term as President. The time for long speeches explaining the problem is over. You know what the problems are. Get to work and solve them.

One of my small contributions to society is offering rides to strangers when i am driving in the same direction as they are. During the rainy season, this can be challenging, as passengers may inadvertently mess my interior but this does not discourage me from helping.

I was off WhatsApp for a whole year in 2022. Things were rough financially, I had just lost big money in a meme coin and was deep in depression. In that dark period, less than 10 people actually called to check on me. Then in 2023, I bounced back hard: made serious money in crypto and won ₦60M from betting. Reinstalled WhatsApp and started posting my odogwu lifestyle. Suddenly, people who never reached out during my absence started flooding my DMs with “hi” and “how far.” As a sharp guy, I only replied to those who checked on me during my darkest time. True friends show up when the bag is empty, not when it’s full. Lesson learned.

Someone was unemployed. You employ them, pay them a higher salary every month, give them a V8, free fuel, a sitting allowance, a travel allowance, and several other benefits, all to use your own resources to do something better for you. Then the person tries to abuse that power, and when you notice it, you tell them to stop. Now you’re thanking them for what exactly? Why are we doing all this for them and still acting as if they are doing us a favor by doing the job they were hired to do?
Credit where it’s due. I’ve spent months criticizing these digital bills, the Ministry, and the Minister of Communications because I believed some of the proposals were dangerous and needed to be challenged. Having gone through the amendments, I can say that many of the concerns Ghanaians raised have been addressed. The truth is, all the noise wasn’t in vain. The tweets, the Spaces, the articles, the stakeholder meetings and the public pressure made a difference. So thank you to the Ministry and the Minister @samgeorgegh for listening. We won’t agree on everything, but listening to citizens and making changes when concerns are raised is exactly how the process should work. That’s a win for Ghana. 🇬🇭
